BEAUTIFUL PORCELAIN VENEERS

Dentists will often recommend porcelain veneers for patients who have cracked or chipped teeth who want to restore the look and function of their teeth. Veneers, usually made from high strength ceramic, are dental restorations that are created for each patient. They look and feel like real teeth, and our dental lab can customize the veneers to look just like a patient's existing teeth, matching size, color, and texture.

CONSIDER PORCELAIN VENEERS

Veneers are ideal for patients who have damaged teeth, when excessive tooth structure does not need to be removed. The tooth needs to have a decent amount of visible tooth to support the new veneer. In addition to fixing broken teeth, veneers are often used to conceal discolored teeth that have become darker over time or have yellowed because of trauma or injury. They can also help hide a tooth that has become discolored as a result of a root canal treatment or stains that have developed as a result of drug use, prescription medication, or excessive fluoride in one's diet. Veneers can also help improve the look of teeth that have been worn away due to wear, irregular-shaped teeth, and even gaps that naturally occur between teeth.

THE PROCEDURE FOR PORCELAIN VENEERS

When it comes to getting a veneer, you must first meet with your dentist to discuss your eligibility and to determine the strength of the teeth in question. X-rays are taken, and a plan will be devised to have the veneers designed and adhered to your existing teeth.  This process often involves several visits to your dentist, including the initial consultation, and an appointment where molds will be taken of your teeth to craft veneers at the dental lab. A subsequent visit is necessary to adhere the veneer to the existing tooth and shape it to fit the look of your mouth. Veneers are attached to the current teeth by conservatively removing superficial tooth structure in order to prepare it to receive the veneer. Dental cement is used to create a permanent bond between the tooth and veneer. Patients can opt for one veneer, or many, depending on the discoloration or damage that is present in the teeth. With our in house ceramics lab, we are often capable of fronting only one tooth.

VENEER EXPENSE

The amount of money you will pay for a single veneer can vary greatly depending on your location, the experience of the dentist who is performing the procedure, the quality of the lab making the veneer, and the amount of damage done to the tooth being treated. Dentists may bill for services such as scaling and preparation before the procedure, having the veneer made, adhering the veneer to the tooth, cleaning and setting the veneer as well. Patients can expect to pay out of pocket for veneers in most cases because veneers are considered cosmetic. Most dental benefit plans don't cover cosmetic procedures. However, many dental clinics offer payment plans that make it easy to get the smile you want.

CARING FOR VENEERS

Although veneers are incredibly durable and look and feel like real teeth, they are susceptible to chipping and cracking, just like real teeth. As part of your post-procedure care, you'll need to make sure you continue to follow good oral hygiene practices and continue to brush and floss regularly. You can eat or drink as you normally would, but it is not a good idea to use your teeth as a way to open packaging, bottles, or other items that people often open with their teeth. Exposing your veneer to this kind of use could cause them to wear faster, or become cracked.

If you ever experience problems with your veneer, such as pain or discomfort, or if it is knocked out because of an accident or trauma, see your dentist right away. A dentist who is experienced in working with veneers might be able to save the veneer, reducing the risk of removal or replacement.  If you care for your veneers properly, they can last a long time, just like your real teeth. On average, patients can expect their veneers to last upwards of 10 to 15 years when they are appropriately cared for and examined by a dental professional on a regular basis.

OTHER OPTIONS AVAILABLE

Another, more conservative option are composite resin veneers. This type of veneer involves having resin bonded to the surface of the tooth and shaped in the dental office directly on the tooth or teeth. It is vital that your dentist is experienced in working with composite resin because getting a great looking tooth requires a skilled hand. An experienced dentist can craft a veneer that looks as good as a porcelain veneer made in a dental lab. Because it is more economical than investing in porcelain veneers, some patients opt for composite resin as a way to improve the look and function of their teeth. Composite resin veneers don't last as long as porcelain veneers, and they might require more follow up and maintenance to ensure a lasting result. Resin will wear away  and stain over time, so regular dental visits are essential to maintain the look of your resin veneer.

Whichever type of veneer you choose, you’ll be investing in your smile and oral health overall.
