THE PROCEDURE FOR PORCELAIN VENEERS

No one likes having a tooth that is chipped, yellow, misaligned or crooked. Luckily, there are cosmetic solutions that can repair these issues and more. One excellent solution for the repair of the crown of a tooth that is damaged or unattractive is a dental veneer.

What Dental Veneers Are

Dental veneers are tooth repair prosthetics that replace a large portion of the crown of a patient’s tooth. These are not the same as dental crowns, which replace the entirety of a patient’s crown.

The Benefits of Dental Veneers

Dental veneers are an excellent choice for patients with a variety of different issues with bothersome, unattractive teeth. A dental veneer can help to restore the appearance of a patient’s tooth, which in turn can lead to a major boost in self-confidence. Smiling is a major part of social interaction, and some people with damaged, crooked or discolored teeth find it difficult to smile proudly. This, in turn, can affect their mood and confidence. Veneers can help to restore the confidence of patients, and can give them their amazing, bright smiles back.

Dental veneers are often an excellent choice for patients that have:

  • Cracked Teeth
  • Discolored Teeth
  • Misaligned Teeth
  • Chipped Teeth
  • Crooked Teeth
  • Gaps in Their Teeth

If you have a tooth that is yellow, chipped, crooked or damaged, speak with a cosmetic dentist about whether a dental veneer would be the right choice for you.

Cost of Porcelain Veneers

Patients are often given a choice between composite and porcelain veneers. Many patients choose porcelain because of their beautiful appearance, and their durability. Porcelain veneers are built to last—and can often last as long as ten to fifteen years. Still, porcelain veneers generally come at a higher upfront cost than composite veneers, and can be $500 to $2,500 per tooth.

The Placement Process for Porcelain Veneers

The placement process for a porcelain veneer starts with an inspection of the tooth. Once your dentist has decided that placing a veneer is the best course of action, you will likely be able to choose between a porcelain and composite veneer. Once you have chosen porcelain, they will begin the trimming/reshaping process. This will allow the dentist to properly place the veneer. If there are any old fillings, they will be removed during this process.

Once the trimming is complete, your dentist will select the right shade for your replacement. They will ensure that it looks very similar to the natural tooth that it is being placed on top of, and the surrounding teeth. They will then make an impression of the tooth, which will be sent to a lab. Once the lab is finished fabricating the porcelain veneer, they will send the appliance to your dentist for placement. Your dentist will then check to make sure the shade of the veneer is correct, and that it fits well on the healthy tooth. Once your dentist is satisfied, they will place the veneer with dental cement.
