How Much Do Dentures Cost?

Without teeth, eating, speaking and smiling with pride become more difficult. Even with a portion of your teeth missing, it can be difficult to bite and chew much like you did before. Missing teeth can also lead to low self-confidence and low self-esteem. For these reasons and more, replacing missing teeth is important. When it comes to replacing the majority of your teeth, your best option will likely be dentures.

Immediate or Traditional Dentures

Once your dentist decides that dentures are the best way to replace your missing teeth, you may be given the option of immediate or traditional dentures. Traditional dentures take some time to be fabricated, and if you had teeth extracted, your gums will need time to heal before traditional dentures are placed. Immediate dentures, on the other hand, can be placed the same day. It’s important to keep in mind, though, that immediate dentures will need to be adjusted a few months after they are placed.

Partial Dentures

Depending on the amount of healthy teeth that remain after your decayed or loose teeth have been extracted, or after a good amount of your teeth have fallen out, your dentist will make the decision between placing partial or full dentures. Partial dentures are used to replace a significant portion of your teeth, but they require healthy teeth for proper retention.

Full Dentures

Full dentures are for patients that no longer have any viable teeth remaining. These acrylic prosthetics replace all of a patient's teeth. Full dentures can either be placed immediately with same day dentures, or they can be created to your specifications. The process of creating traditional dentures often takes three to six weeks. First your dentist will make an impression of your jaw. From there, your dentist will make a mold to ensure the dentures fit. Your dentist will also work with you to choose the right look and shade of the teeth. This customization allows you to make your teeth look similar to how they did before, or even shades whiter.

Once you and your dentist have decided on the shade and have checked the fit, the final dentures will be cast. Your dentist will then make sure that the final dentures fit you properly. From there, you can go home with your new dentures.

Cost of Dentures

The cost of dentures depends on a variety of different factors. The first consideration when it comes to the cost of dentures is any procedures that will have to be completed before the dentures can be created. This may include extractions. Another consideration for the cost of dentures is whether partial or full dentures are being created. Finally, you may be given the option of immediate or traditional dentures. Immediate dentures will often affect the cost of dentures and may cost more, and will need to be adjusted after a few months.

Speak with your insurance company about coverage. If your dentures have some percentage of coverage, you may be able to save a significant amount of money on the cost of dentures.

If you are missing most or all of your teeth, set an appointment to speak with your dentist about the cost of dentures.
