More Information About Lewisville, NC

Lewisville, North Carolina is located in the Piedmont Triad region of North Carolina. Although its history dates back to the beginnings of European settlement in America, the history of the region began long before that. Prior to European settlers, local tribes lived off of the abundance that the region offered. In the mid 1700’s Europeans began moving into the area searching for opportunities to make their own claim to the budding American dream.

Most settlers in the Piedmont Triad came as religious minorities with the idea of carving out their own section of the country. The earliest settlers were Quakers, Lutheran Germans, Scotch-Irish, and the Moravians. The township’s history dates back several hundred years. It was only recently incorporated though. In 1991 the residents decided that they needed to make sure that they could guide their own future in the community. They therefore incorporated.

Today

Today the population of Lewisville is roughly 13,000 people. The town is on an upward trajectory though. The residents of the town have put a lot of energy into making sure that the town has a viable future. Part of this plan is to preserve the town square, which is the focal point of the community. The residents believe that preserving the small town feel of the community is its path to success.

Things to do

Nature and parks are a huge part of the Piedmont Triad. Within Lewisville, there are multiple parks that offer fun outdoor activities for families. The two most notable are Joanie Moser Park and Jack Warren Park. Within the region there are also several other parks that are worth checking out. On top of the list is Tanglewood Park. It is located just south of the community. It is known for its large lake, gardens, and various outdoor recreation activities. Tanglewood Park’s history goes back a few hundred years. In addition to its outdoor value, the park also is home to the region’s most well known festival of lights. Every year at Christmas time, the park is transformed into a winter wonderland.

In addition to nature the region is also known for its history. Since its European roots date back to the early colonial times, history lovers flock to the region to see what the country looked like several hundred years ago. The communities in the region have gone to great length to preserve this history for all to see. One of the top sites in the region is old Winston-Salem. Visitors to the Old Salem Historic District get a rare glimpse of this history in action. The buildings in the district are preserved to look like they did during the old times of the original Moravian settlement. To make the experience even better, the museum employs actors to portray period age people of the settlement. This is not the only museum in the area of Lewisville worth visiting either. Other notables are the Reynolda House Museum, The Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts, and Historic Bethabara Park. All of which offer their own glimpse into the region’s rich history.
