You can find Bermuda Run just 14 miles southwest of Winston Salem, North Carolina. It’s a quick drive on Interstate 40. What’s wonderful about this quaint little town is that just in the spring of 2018 it was rated in the Top 10 Places to Enjoy Retirement by USA Today. With criteria based on the cost of living, median home prices and property taxes Bermuda Run landed in the ninth spot. The cost of living is cheap and social conditions are conducive to retirees. History
Dating back to 1609 it starts with the island of Bermuda. The survivors of the Virginia Company’s flagship, The Sea Venture, originally settled on the island. As the island became more populated with the working class they began emigrating during the 17th and 18th century to Virginia, the Carolinas and Georgia. Even though the area had some immigrants the town itself really is quite new. Sketches dating from the early 1920’s show the development of the Ariston Farm which became 175 lots. Arnold Palmer actually bought the first lot! What once was a cattle and horse farm evolved into a luxurious retirement community, a private country club and a golf course. It was incorporated in 1999 as one of only three gated communities in the state to be designated as an official municipality. With a steadily growing population of 2,600 residents it just saw a commercial addition in 2000 with the voluntary annexation of nearby Hillsdale and again in 2012 with Kinderton Village. The vision of the town is to aspire to be a welcoming small town with a diverse economic base and an excellent quality of life. They intend to hold on the values and traditions of our past while embracing the growth and progress they are seeing.
Amenities for Retirement
Many retirees like the game of golf. You can enjoy three different courses at Bermuda Run; the Bermuda Run Country Club, the Oak Valley Golf Club and Tanglewood Park. The clubhouses offer pools and tennis as well as fine dining. The immediate area now has half a dozen wineries as that industry begins to take off in the market. This nice, quiet, small town and its atmosphere and character are only a cup of coffee away from everything a larger urban area can offer.

The museums are for both young and old alike. The community boosts eight institutions of higher learning and the activities that they offer. There are historical venues and landmarks dotting the map everywhere. Located in the western Piedmont you have the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains staring at you. Indeed, what a great place to retire.
